Bobby Sam Simpson

November 25, 1928 — January 9, 2014

God called Bobby Sam Simpson, 85, home on Thursday, January 9, 2014 while surrounded by family at Hospice House of Union County. He suffered a stroke on New Year’s Day. Born in the Fountain Hill Community of Anson County to the late Hoyle and the late Kate Mitchum Simpson, he was named Robert Samuel Simpson at birth, later changing his name to Bobby Sam. He served our country in the U.S. Army during the years of 1951-1953. He met the love of his life, Lois Gordon, while on furlough. Upon returning from service, they were married on April 4, 1953. They lived most of their 60+ years together in the New Salem Community of Union County. Bob was a sweet, gentle man who always worked hard and put the needs of others before himself, always willing to lend a helping hand to someone in need. He was a reserved man who never wanted to be recognized for his efforts. He was an avid Nascar race fan. He worked as a truck driver for Armour and Company, Charlotte, NC, retiring after 29 years of service. Shortly after retiring, he was called by Thomas Gas Company, Marshville, NC and delivered gas in the area for 10 years. His passion was his garden, where he grew fruits and vegetables year round. He loved to share the bounty of his labor with family and friends. His wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren love him deeply and will sorely miss him. He joins in worship of our Lord and Saviour, his parents, Hoyle and Kate Mitchum Simpson; sister, Gladys Simpson Braswell and husband T.C. Braswell and brothers Harold Simpson and Maxx Simpson. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Lois Gordon Simpson; his children, Ricky Simpson of Wingate, Peggy Simpson Gordon and husband Eddie of Polkton, Bobby Simpson and wife Carol of New Salem, and Randy Simpson and wife Ana Linda of New Salem; grandchildren, Diana Gordon Gallimore and husband Bobby of Lilesville, Samuel Simpson of Mint Hill, Jacob Gordon of Polkton, Marie Simpson of Spartanburg, SC, Tina Love of Monroe and Dusty Williams of Unionville; and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 12, 2014 from 1:30 - 3:00 pm at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112 and a graveside celebration of his life will be at 3:30 pm at Lakeland Memorial Park.
