James Loyd Belk, Jr., 79, of Monroe, North Carolina inherited the eternal kingdom on Monday, November 25, 2013. A native of Monroe, he was the son of the late James Loyd Belk, Sr. and Maude Crowell Belk. He proudly served his country from 1953 until 1955 as a US Army Corporal receiving a National Defense Service Medal. After his years of military service, he later retired from the City of Monroe. He was a longtime active member of Shiloh Baptist Church. As a devoted husband and father, his life reflected a love of family. He was an avid gardener who enjoyed sharing his abundant harvest with many friends. He is survived by a dedicated wife of 55 years, Lorraine Parker Belk; daughter, Robin Paulette Belk; son, Timothy James Belk; granddaughter, Lindsey Rebecca Brost; faithful canine companion, Sam; numerous extended family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters. A Funeral Service in witness to the resurrection will be held Saturday, November 30, 1:00 p.m., at Shiloh Baptist Church (2301 Rocky River Road North). The family will welcome friends at a reception immediately following in the Family Ministry Center. A Service of Committal with military rites will be held at Lakeland Memorial Park at 4:00 p.m. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to healthcare professionals of Carolinas Medical Center, Duke Medical Center, Hospice Care of Union County, and especially Dr. Grigor Badalyan.
