John Durant “Bid” Vanderbeek, Jr, 88, of Monroe, NC passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2022. He was born in Rockland County, NY on June 4, 1933 son to the late John Durant Vanderbeek Sr., and Ureebelle Wiedman Vanderbeek. He is also preceded in death by his son Tom Vanderbeek, grandson Nathan Cook, two son-in-laws David Cook, Keith Smith and sister Joan V. Adduce.

The family will receive friends from 6:00PM until 8:00PM on Friday, February 4, 2022 at Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112.

He was a member of the Monroe Civitan Club and a life long volunteer fireman for Hillcrest Fire Station Number 1, he also served his country and was a Korean Veteran.
“Bid” was a devoted Christian and never met a stranger, he loved to play softball and was a huge baseball fan. He retired from Builder Supply Company in Lancaster, SC.

“Bid” is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Dorothy Vogelsang Vanderbeek, son Tim Vanderbeek (Debbie), three daughters Heidi Perrow (David), Holly Cook and Wendy Vanderbeek, daughter-in-law Betty Vanderbeek, seven grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
