Adele "Skip" Wall

March 22, 1918 — September 2, 2016

Adele Patricia Loecher Wall, best known as “Skip” died September 2, 2016 at the Stewart Health Center, Cypress of Charlotte. She was 98. Mrs. Wall is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Richard A. “Dick” Wall and four siblings, Lizzette Kilduff, George Loecher, Gloria Smith and Robert Loecher. Mrs. Wall was born 1918 in St. Albans, Queens, New York. Although documents suggest she was born March 22, she maintained she was born on the first day of Spring, March 21. She graduated from Jamaica High School in 1936, where she and Dick met and started dating. They married September 7, 1941. Skip worked as an administrative assistant in New York for several years. Skip and Dick lived in Boston and Baltimore before settling in Port Washington, Long Island, New York where they lived for over 50 years, raising three sons, Richard, Ronald and Randolph. They moved to Charlotte in 2006 to be near the brightest and most handsome of the three. Skip was well known for her strong-willed (aka stubborn) personality, her sons recall many dinners when asked if they wanted second helpings, knew full well the answer did not matter. They were going to get the rest of the mashed potatoes whether they wanted them or not. Her stubbornness again manifested when she survived a major stroke over 6 years ago and lived past several other brushes with death. Skip was well known as a loving mother, avid gardener, amazing cook and talented pianist who loved entertaining friends. She performed in numerous productions with Port Singers, a community based musical theater company. Skip was also a long time member and supporter of P.E.O., a philanthropic educational organization for women and served as President of Chapter AW. In her later years in Port Washington, she became head tour guide at Falaise, the Guggenheim Mansion in Sands Point. Mrs. Wall is survived by three sons, Rick Wall of Richmond, TX; Ron Wall of Bridgehampton, NY; Randy Wall of Charlotte (Betsy Birkner) and 5 grandchildren Andrew, Hollis, Anita and Leo Wall and Danien Vasquez. The family would like to express its deep appreciation for the amazing staff at the Stewart Health Center, Cypress of Charlotte who provided Skip with incredible, compassionate care over her final years. The family will hold a private celebration of Skip’s life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to P.E.O. Chapter AW, c/o Jane Harding, 10 Davis Road, Port Washington 11050. Gordon Funeral Service Crematory is caring for the Wall family. Online condolences may be made at www.gordonfuneralservice.com
