Alfred Kenneth (Ken) Nemer, II, 73, of Monroe, NC, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2017 after a long, hard-fought battle with dementia. Ken, the son of Alfred Kenneth Nemer and Fay Reinhardt Nemer Drage (Edward Drage) was born on November 22, 1943 in Winston-Salem, NC. Ken was a graduate of James A. Gray High School in Winston-Salem, NC and Wingate College in Wingate, NC. He also attended the University of Georgia in Athens, GA. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sandy; one son, Tracy Nemer of Monroe, NC; one daughter, Kelly Stegall and husband Steven Stegall of Monroe, NC; and two grandchildren, Levy Stegall and Magdalena (Lena) Stegall of Monroe, NC. In addition to being a proud husband, father, and grandfather, Ken dearly loved his extended Nemer (Shore) and Reinhardt families and cherished spending birthdays and holidays with them in Winston-Salem, NC and religiously attending the annual Reinhardt Family Reunion in Hooterville, VA. Ken spent the majority of his career in banking, working for NCNB and Nations Bank. He spent the last 11 years of his career working with Union County Transportation. Ken was active in civic and community organizations as a member of Kiwanis and Monroe Civitan Club. He was also an avid volunteer with The Arc of Union County and was recognized as The Arc of NC Volunteer of the Year. Ken was a founding and dedicated member of T.H.U.M.B.S men’s club. Ken had a life-long love for classic cars, rock-and-roll, antiquing, and Speedy’s BBQ. More than anything, he loved spending time with family and friends whenever possible.
