Alice Kay Rorie Evans, 79, of Monroe, NC, passed away at home Friday, February 13, 2026. She was born on December 16, 1946, to the late Ralph Rorie and Jane Elizabeth (Janie) Carnes Rorie.

The family will receive friends Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 2:00-4:00PM, at the home of her niece, Jennifer Dockery.

Kay graduated from Forest Hills High School and attended Central Piedmont Community College. She went on to serve her entire career as a teacher’s assistant at Union Elementary School in Wingate, where her patient instruction and easy-going demeanor created fond memories for many of her young students. She often returned to Union after retirement as a substitute teacher.

In her free time, Kay loved family, fitness and finding a great shopping deal on the clearance rack. Her favorite hobbies included a sunny pool day with her family, a lively Zumba class at the Monroe Aquatics and Fitness Center and a day of shopping and lunch with her sisters.

Kay is preceded in death by her sister, Peggie Rorie Graham, and longtime companion, Joe Baker. She is survived by her sisters, Melody Baucom (Jimmy) and Penny Deese, brother-in-law Jim Graham, and a close family of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kay’s memory to Beulah Presbyterian Church, 8305 Landsford Road, Monroe, NC 28112.
