Angelene Holbrook Baskins

Angelene Holbrook Baskins, 84, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2019. She was born April 26, 1935 in Wilkes County, NC daughter of the late Lloyd Earl & Pauline Smith Holbrook. After graduating from Elkin High School, she moved to Washington DC, and went to work for the FBI. While in DC she met the love of her life Dean to whom she was married to for 60 years. She continued to work with the FBI until the birth of their son Jeff, and later moved to Tulsa, OK, where their daughter Jennifer was born. After the passing of her mother-in-law and father-in-law they moved to NC to be closer to family. She was a preschool teacher for many years and then went to work for Union County Public School System. She loved to play tennis, go to lunch with her friends, and attend Chautauqua Book Club. She was an active member of First Baptist Church where she spent countless hours working in the kitchen, and she loved working in the nursery where she got to hold the babies. She was a member of the Then & Now Sunday School Class for many years. She adored her grandchildren and was the best Gigi any child could ask for. She and Dean had special friends they traveled with and spent many weekends at the beach with. She loved cooking big meals for big celebrations with them. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Monroe, 109 W. Morrow Ave., Monroe, NC 28112. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 PM until 1:45 PM in the church parlor. She is survived by her loving husband Dean Baskins, a son Jeffrey Dean Baskins, a daughter Jennifer Baskins Snelson, husband Greg, two sisters Bettie Jean Balabous, and Emmalee Cheek, two grandchildren Grant and Jake Snelson, three nephews, and several cousins.
