Ann Lowery Thomas

March 25, 1950 — March 13, 2024

Ann Lowery Thomas, 73, left her earthly home in the early morning hours of March 13, 2024. Welcoming her to heaven, she was greeted by her husband, Dr. Jerry Thomas, her parents, Tom and Mildred Lowery, and her granddaughter, Eva Karis Thomas.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 16 at Wingate Baptist Church, 109 East Elm Street, Wingate, NC. Family members will greet friends in the church fellowship hall prior to the service from 10:00-10:45. Ann will be laid to rest beside her high school sweetheart at a later date.

Ann had a heart of gold and was a "fixer," always focused on the happiness of others. She pushed her children to the limits, always wanting them to be the best they could be while teaching them the importance of humility. Ann was the talker in the family and was balanced out by her quieter other half, Jerry. Laughter was a fixture in her life. You could always count on two things with Ann - she would be running a little bit late, and she was always ready to crack a good joke.

Her high school years were a fairy tale. Jerry, the 3-sport star athlete dating Ann, the head cheerleader and Homecoming queen. After graduating from Forest Hills High School in Marshville, NC and then attending Appalachian State University, she began teaching at Wingate Elementary. She retired from teaching after finishing her career at East Union Middle School. She touched many lives during her time in the classroom and was often greeted around town by former students. Everyone seems to have their own "Mrs. Thomas" story.

Ann's children referred to her as their fiercest advocate and best, loudest cheerleader. A caring wife to her late husband and devoted "Mimi" to her 4 grandchildren, there was never a doubt where Ann found the most profound joy...with her family. She loved the beach and spent many happy days in retirement traveling with her husband and friends.

Ann is survived by her children Allison Thomas of Monroe, NC and Trent Thomas (Kathryn) of Clover, SC; grandchildren Judah 7, Anna 4, Sophia 3 and Lucy 1; siblings Cindy James (Roger) and Nancy Lowery of Wingate, NC, and Tommy Lowery (Patti) of Seneca, SC.
