Anna Corinne (Jones) Eubanks

April 15, 1911 — March 24, 2016

Anna Corinne Jones Eubanks passed away March 24, 2016, just 3 weeks before her 105th birthday. She had been a resident of Southminster Retirement Community in Charlotte since March, 2000. She was born in Nashville, NC on April 15, 1911, graduated from Salem College in 1932, and taught school in Nash and Anson Counties. In 1939, she was appointed to represent North Carolina at the New York’s World Fair. As one of two hostesses from North Carolina, she traveled the state extensively and gained the knowledge to represent the various interests of the state. She loved the history, culture, and people of North Carolina. She married Thomas Claude Eubanks of Monroe on October 4, 1939, and spent the next 52 years with him until he predeceased her in June, 1994. Her interests included learning about and collecting antiques and working for historic preservation to protect buildings near the Union County Court House and the Washington Street neighborhood in Monroe. She was a member of the Sorosis Book Club in Monroe and a strong supporter of the Union County Library system. By example she instilled in her children the value and pleasure of reading and lifelong learning. She was a member, active supporter, and Sunday school teacher at Central United Methodist Church. She was a conservationist. She didn’t want to throw anything away because she might find a use for it later. And often times she did. She is survived by her three children: Thomas Claude Eubanks, Jr. of Charlotte, NC, Alton Louis Eubanks of Indian Trail, NC, and Martha Corinne Eubanks of Denver, CO, four grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Alda Ellen Jones of Raleigh. Her sister Eula Mae Jones Auman predeceased her in 1997. The family would like to thank Sharon Davis and Takayo Watkins who lovingly cared for her for 16 years, always being very kind and dependable with their caregiving services. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 2 at 2:00 at Lakeland Memorial Park, 1901 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Central United Methodist Church, 801 S. Hayne Street, Monroe, NC 28112 or Union County Public Library, 316 E. Windsor Street, Monroe, NC 28110. Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112, is caring for the Eubanks family. Online condolences may be made at www.gordonfuneralservice.com. Service: Saturday, April 2, 2016 2:00 PM
