Arnold Ty Christensen, 69, of Indian Land, SC (Sun City) passed away Thursday, February 2, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC after a valiant battle with leukemia. Ty is survived by his wife Jeanne and their three children: Mark Christensen of San Francisco and his fiancée Roxanne Rapan, Carol Ann (Christensen) and her husband Rocky Hankins of Drumright, OK, and Deborah Christensen of Monroe, NC. He also has one grandson, Cameron Hankins. He is survived by his two siblings and their spouses: Alice (Christensen) and Jim Haskin of Bellevue, WA, and Katherine (Christensen) and Francis Wildenstein of Bainbridge, NY, and sister-in-law Linda Christensen. Ty was born in East Northport, Long Island to the late Arnold and Astrid Christensen of Stokke, Norway and was raised on the family farm in Guilford, NY. He was preceded in death by his brother Arthur Christensen of Guilford, NY. Ty was a graduate of Mt. Upton Central School where he was involved with many sports, and of SUNY Maritime College at Fort Schuyler where he earned a bachelors degree in marine engineering and had the opportunity to travel around the world during the summer. Ty worked for Carrier Air Conditioning and then United Technologies Corporation before retiring after 33 years of service. After earning his MBA at Syracuse University, he was president of BACO Controls for four years before he and Jeanne retired to South Carolina. Ty loved his family and friends but was especially grateful for the love and support of his wife of 48 years, Jeanne. He loved to golf, spend time with friends and travel with Jeanne. He enjoyed many sports and always rooted for the Yankees, Syracuse Orange and the NY Giants. He loved the water and sailing on Cazenovia Lake. There will be a memorial service on Monday, February 6th at 4pm at Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112. There will be a reception immediately following the memorial service in the media center at Central Academy of Technology Arts. The school is located at 600 Brewer Dr. in Monroe.
