Arnold Joel Price

Arnold Joel Price, age 84, passed away on September 16, 2024. He was born in Union County, NC, on April 3, 1940, son of the late Hoyle and Cathleen Price. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Brenda Sue Price, and two brothers Don and Wayne Price.


Arnold was a humble man who loved his country, family, woodworking, cars, tractors, his community, and the Carolina Tarheels. Arnold served as an E4 in the United States Army from 1959-1962. He was a skilled mechanic at Griffin Motor Company and later went on to open his own shop, Fairview Auto Service. He then retired from Union County Transportation Services. He served his community on the Fairview Town Council from 2011-2014. He was the founding officer and member of the Dixie Turf Toys Antique and Modified Tractor Club. In 2011, Arnold was inducted into the Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Association INC Hall of Fame. Arnold was a dedicated Post Commander of the American Legion Post 440 of New Salem from 2020-2024. He was a lifelong member of Zion Methodist Church and a true patriot who believed in service above self.


A service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Zion Methodist Church, 1521 Old Fish Rd. Monroe, NC 28110, followed by burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112.


Arnold is survived by his two daughters, Gayle Brock (Carlton) of Marshville, and Lisa Thomas (Ronald), of Monroe; grandchildren Amber Williams (Mitchell) of Marshville, Spencer Cox (Garrett) of Monroe, Justin Brock (Dayaine) of Monroe, Jessica Thomas of Marshville; great-granddaughters, Parker, Blakely, Abigail; his brother, Bill Price (Libby) of Indian Trail, and sisters-in-law Doris Price of Monroe, Deanna Freeman of Locust; companion Arlene Haigler of Monroe, and many nieces and nephews.


In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to American Legion Post 440, 5909 Sugar Wine Rd. Monroe, NC, 28110, or Hospice of Union County, 700 W Roosevelt Blvd. Monroe, NC 28110.
