Audrey Carstensen Broome, 81, of Waxhaw, NC passed away on Monday, January 29, 2024. She was born on October 26, 1942, in Denison, Iowa to the late Julius and Anna Reuss Carstensen. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Steven Michael; brothers, Raymond, Clarence, Dennis, Gerald, and Johnny and sisters, Joann and Bonita.
She married the late Albert “Doug” Broome on July 2, 1965, in Boise, Idaho.
Audrey’s joy in life revolved around her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She enjoyed cooking for her family, including her fried chicken for traditional Sunday dinners. Her work in construction, along with Doug, gave her the opportunity to travel around the US, yet her love of the beach, mainly Ocracoke NC, was her destination for family vacations. She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, and working in her yard with her cats by her side. She would always say that “they were looking out for her”.
Audrey was strong-willed and quite stubborn at times, yet she embodied the best qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and love of life. She was a survivor, beating breast cancer in 1989 and continuing to live a full life for many unforgettable years.
She was loved by many and will be truly missed. Her legacy will live on in those who knew her.
A visitation will be held Saturday, February 3, 2024, from 1:00 – 3:00 PM in Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC.
Survivors to cherish her memory are her daughter, Anna Marie Stickle of Indian Land, SC; sister, Patricia Jorgensen and husband Mark of Denison, Iowa; brothers, Norman Carstensen of Ida Grove, Iowa and Dean Carstensen of Boise, Idaho; stepsons Bill Broome and wife Karen of Boise, Idaho, Tracy Broome and wife Linda of McCall, Idaho and step-daughter Phyllis Hansen and husband, Jay of Raymond, Nebraska.
