Avis Bernice Heffner Hoover, age 97, beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, June 15, 2014. She was born in Maiden, North Carolina on July 13, 1916, daughter of the late William Lonodis Heffner and Sallie Lillian Love Heffner. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Henry Hoover, Jr. and son, William Heffner Hoover; brothers, Leonard Thompson Heffner and Clifton Womble Heffner and sister, Mrs. Una Heffner Arndt. Bernice, “B”, was a long-time resident of Lincolnton, North Carolina and a graduate of the Women’s College of the University of North Carolina. “B” was a retired school teacher with the Lincoln County Public Schools. Bernice is survived by her son, Dr. Charles H. Hoover, III and wife, Frances Lyon Hoover; daughter-in- law, Mrs. Nadine Godwin Hoover; grandchildren, William H. Hoover, II, Crystal Hoover Tattersall, Elizabeth Hoover Gwynne and husband Peter Holford Gwynne, Charles Henry Hoover, IV and Matthew Lyon Hoover; great-grandchildren Kylie Faith Hoover, William Heffner Hoover, III and Bryson Richard Tattersall; niece, Caroline Heffner Dixon and family, Mrs. Margaret H. Rose and family and nephews, Dr. Leonard Thomson Heffner, Jr. and family and Mr. Clifton W. Heffner, Jr. and family. “Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. -Proverbs 31:25-30 The Hoover family will receive friends at Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC, between 6pm and 8pm, Tuesday, June 17, 2014. A Graveside service will be performed by the Rev. Ed Briggs, of Weddington United Methodist Church, on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the Hollybrook Cemetery in Lincolnton, North Carolina at 2 pm.
