Barbara Lee Carter Mills, 65, died August 4, 2007 in Chattanooga, TN while visiting relatives. She was born on September 4, 1941 in Danville, VA., to the late Stanley Weyman and Carrie Wilson Moorefield Carter. She was preceded in death by her sister, Patsy Carter Hertzog. Barbara was a loving wife, mother, grandmother (Mimi) and friend to all who knew her. She was a devoted member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Monroe, where she attended the Then-N-Now Sunday School Class, and the Helen Fling Circle. She also was a previous board member of Friends of the Library, and the Union Symphony Society. She was an active member of The Sorosis Book Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Daughters of the American Colonies. Barbara was previously Chairman of the Blooming Arts Festival and also enjoyed extensive traveling with the Friendship Force of Charlotte. A funeral service will be held, 2:00 PM Wednesday August 8, 2007 at First Baptist Church of Monroe, with burial to follow in the Monroe City Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Arnold Parker Mills, son A. Parker Mills Jr. and spouse Tammie, of Monroe, their children, Morgan, Allie, and Louise. Her three daughters Susan Mills Echols of Atlanta GA, her daughters Lauren and Hannah, Jennifer Mills Hissam and spouse Ken of Weddington,their children Rachel, Carter, and Baxter and Deborah Mills Wall and spouse Brent of Monroe, and their children Julia and Jackson. Her ten grandchildren were the light of her life and she savored every moment with them. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 7, 2007 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Gordon Funeral Cremation Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112.
