Barbara Huntley Simpson

Barbara Huntley Simpson, 87, of Monroe, NC passed away on Monday, September 25, 2023. She was born in Mecklenburg County on March 24, 1936, daughter of the late Marion Buford Huntley, Sr., and Leah Phifer Huntley. She was preceded in death by her husband Frederick Leon Simpson, Jr.; daughter-in-law Patti Tillman Simpson; grandchildren Katie Scott Simpson, Mollie Michele Simpson, and Kylie Christine Simpson; brothers Buford Huntley, Jr., and Howard Huntley; and sisters Dorothy McClellan, Elizabeth Lucht, and Jean Price.

In addition to being a high school English teacher in Charlotte and a substitute teacher in Monroe, Barbara served her churches in these two cities as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She played golf for much of her adult life, actively supporting the Rolling Hills Ladies Golf Association and similar organizations at the regional level.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Monroe, 109 Morrow Street, Monroe, NC 28112. A live stream of the service will also be available at fbcmonroenc.com.

Barbara is survived by her two sons Scott and Murray Simpson, Murray’s wife MiTia, and grandchildren Benjamin, Matthew, and Leah Simpson.

The family will hold a visitation and reception following the memorial service in the church’s Family Life Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Monroe, 109 Morrow Street, Monroe, NC 28112.
