Mrs. Belvin Louise Adams Hawkins, age 79, entered into her eternal home on Saturday, October 10, 2020 after an extended period of declining health. Belvin was born on December 15, 1940 to Frank Joseph Adams and Lillian Betty Cockerham Adams. She grew up in State Road, North Carolina. While still in elementary school, Belvin met Clyde Robert Hawkins, who became her childhood sweetheart and later her husband when they wed on July 11, 1959. Belvin faithfully supported her husband, Clyde, in his call to church ministry. Together they dedicated their lives to the Lord’s work. A long career began close to home at West Elkin Baptist Church in 1965. They then moved to Hebron Baptist Church in Statesville, NC from 1972 to 1974. Centerview Baptist Church in Kannapolis, NC welcomed the Hawkins family in 1974. God next called the family to serve at Sandy Ridge Baptist Church in Monroe, NC until 2002. Belvin felt a deep commitment to the children in these churches, and she faithfully served as a children’s Sunday School teacher, nursery volunteer, nursery director and more. When not involved in ministry work, Belvin enjoyed sewing, making dolls, cooking, fishing, and spending time with her family. She particularly treasured being a loving “Mamaw” to her grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Neil Hawkins and wife, Ashley of Monroe, North Carolina. There are two grandchildren, Joshua Hawkins and wife Katie of Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Lauren Hawkins, of Monroe, North Carolina, two brothers, Bobby Adams and wife, Janie, of Max Meadows, Virginia, and Gale Adams and wife, Glenda, of Niceville, Florida. Belvin was predeceased by her husband, parents, and a daughter, Joy Louise Hawkins. A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at 6:30 pm at Calvary Baptist Church in Monroe, North Carolina. A greeting of family and friends will be held following the service until 8:30 pm.
