Bernard Clinton Satterwhite succumbed to injuries from recent falls and died on Good Friday, April 14, 2017. His loving family who has gone on before him, including two wives, Kitty of 50 years and Maxine of 15, has welcomed him home into the Kingdom of Heaven. Bernie leaves behind his younger sister, Shirley Nuckols, his younger brother, Walter, many cousins, nieces and nephews, his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Linda Ward, his daughter and son-in-law, Terry and Mike Moore, his step-son and step-daughter-in-law, Tom and Penny Higgason, his step-daughter, Sharon Swartout, four grandchildren, Laura Ward, Chris Ward, Matt Moore with his wife Roz, and Aaron Moore with his wife, Lacie; four great-grandchildren, Kristin Ward Patterson, 28, Isabella Ward, 11, Emma Ward, 8, and the newest addition, Ashlyn Moore, almost 10 months; and two great-great-grandchildren, Lucas Patterson, 6, and Olivia Patterson, 4 (Bernie cherished his hugs and kisses from his great-great-grandchildren!). Born in Short Pump, Virginia, on December 1, 1928, Bernie made the Richmond area his home for most of his 88 years and was a member of Berea Baptist Church. He retired from Pitney-Bowes after 37 years, loved NASCAR and to go for rides around town. About a week before his most recent accident, he enjoyed a trip to Richmond. Perhaps the trip was Divine Providence, but we are all thankful since it would be the last time he visited family from his old homestead. Bernie will be laid to rest at a graveside service at Berea Baptist Church Cemetery, Hylas, Virginia, on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. Services are provided in conjunction by Gordon Funeral Service Monroe, NC, and Bennett Funeral Home, Richmond, VA,.
