Dateline: Wingate, NC Bernistene Lovett Armstrong, 84, passed away June 23, 2011. She was born September 4, 1926 in Bladen County, daughter of the late Norman and Irene McClain Lovett. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Alfred Benjamin Armstrong, on June 5, 2011. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Sue Arant and her brother, Otto Lovett. Funeral service will be Monday, June 27, 2011 at 11:00 AM in Gordon Funeral Chapel, with burial to follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will visit with friends and relatives Sunday, June 26, 2011 from 3:00 – 5:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112. Mrs. Armstrong is survived by sons, Mike Armstrong and Alfred “Tarzan” Armstrong and wife Linda, both of Wingate; Gene Armstrong and wife Mary of Monroe; a daughter, Sandra Thomas and husband, Charles, of Wingate and son-in-law, Tommy Arant of Wingate; sisters, Christine Freeman and Arbutis Freeman, both of Bladenboro, NC and Lula Mae Herring of Monroe; fifteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
