Bess Jean “Becky” Handsel, 84, passed away Tuesday April 12, 2016. She was born in Union County, March 16, 1932 daughter of the late Martin L. Smith and Bessie Gurley Smith. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 10:00 until 10:45 AM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM in the Gordon Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Lakeland Memorial Park. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Sid Handsel in 2014. She is survived by her three sons, Hayden Handsel and wife Beth of Waxhaw, Phil Handsel and wife Deanna Burns Handsel of Matthews, Scott Handsel and wife Michele of Monroe, two grandchildren, Andrew Handsel and wife Ashley Wallace Handsel, Madison Handsel and sister, Jessie Purnell of Monroe.
