Dateline… Myrtle Beach, SC: Bette A. Hawfield, 77 died Thursday January 8, 2009 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC. She was born July 25, 1931 in Gaston County, NC, a daughter of the late Lawrence S. and Eva Shires Auten. Her daughter Terri H. Mack, a brother, Larry Auten and a sister, Dolores Abernathy all predeceased her. Bette was a devoted Christian and was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Monroe, NC and First Presbyterian Church in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She was a chairman of the Christian Women’s Club in Monroe, which met at the Rolling Hills Country Club and led to many women accepting Christ. She was very dedicated to this cause. Mrs. Hawfield won an award for working along side Reverend Al Lewis at Covenant Prison Ministries for providing spiritual guidance. She was a volunteer for many organizations. Her devotion and love of her family is her greatest legacy and she was a second mom to many. Survivors include her husband, Frank H. Hawfield, Jr. of Myrtle Beach, SC; a daughter, Carol Kutteh of Newtown Square, PA; three grandchildren, Nicole Kutteh, Shannon Mack and Brandon Mack and two great-grandchildren, Hannah Quenga and John Mack, Jr. Funeral services in Myrtle Beach will be 2:00 PM Saturday January 10, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Robert C. Wilkes, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends at McMillan-Small Funeral Home on Friday January 9, 2009 from 6:00-8:00 pm. Funeral Services in Monroe, NC will be 2:00 PM Sunday January 11, 2009 at Gordon Funeral Home (704-283-8141). The family will receive friends on Sunday January 11, 2009 from 12:30-2:00 pm at Gordon Funeral Home in Monroe, NC. Memorials may be made to Building Fund at First Presbyterian Church of Myrtle Beach, PO Box 1307, Myrtle Beach, SC 29578.
