Betty Griffin Autry, 93, Wingate, NC passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023. She was born in Union County on December 20, 1929, daughter to the late Bruce Griffin and Leo Clontz Griffin. She was also preceded by her loving husband H.B. Autry, and her five brothers: Jimmy Griffin, Haskell Griffin, Cecil Griffin, Floyd Griffin, and Lewis Griffin.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at Union Baptist Church, 4312 Old Pageland Monroe Road, Monroe, NC 28112 with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Betty is survived by her son Hampton “Hamp” Autry and his wife Pat, two grandchildren: Zach Autry and his wife Trisha, and Britney Autry, as well as two great-grandchildren, Risden Autry and Rachel Autry.
Betty loved her friends, family and most of all her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was happiest when she was spending time with her family. Even in her later years, her eyes would light up as soon as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren entered the room. She loved cooking, visiting with those she loved and spending time outdoors in her swing. Her love language was taking care of others and she did it well!
She has longed for the day that she would be reunited with her husband, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, siblings and friends that passed before her. As soon as she left this Earth she had complete and full understanding of where she was and who she was for the first time in a very long time. Betty’s purpose on this Earth was to care for others. There is no doubt that she heard, “Well done, good and faithful servant” when she met Jesus face to face Friday morning. Her family finds great peace in knowing where she is now and cannot wait to be reunited with her one day.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, June 12, 2023, at Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd, Monroe, NC 28112. Betty’s family got to experience the amazing care that Hospice provides for about three weeks. Each and every member of their team treated her with kindness and compassion. They made this experience so much easier on her and her family and the family will be forever grateful for their commitment to their patients.
