Betty Jane Benton

Betty Jane Benton was born on October 2nd, 1928 and passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 10th, 2019 at Hospice of Union County. She was the daughter of Clinton D. Benton, Sr. and Murielle Hinde Benton and was preceded in death by her brother Clinton D. Benton, Jr. and her sister Olivia Benton. She leaves behind a sister, Joy Benton Shute; nephews J.R. (Randy) Shute (wife Peggy), Joseph (Joe) Shute, and niece Amanda Shute Sullivan; great-nephew Nicholas Sullivan; great nieces Jennifer Shute Murphy (Kevin), Sarah Shute Kozuch (Marek), Laurel Shute Fox (Jennifer), and Emma Sullivan; great-great nieces Brooklyn, Abigail, and Keaton; great-great nephews Matias, Brayden, Colin, Dylan, and Evan. Jane graduated from Kings Business College in Charlotte, and worked as a bookkeeper in the accounts receivable department of Monroe Hardware for over 60 years. She loved her work and the people there, returning several times to help out when asked even after retirement. She was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church Monroe and loved her church community. Jane was committed to seeing growth in downtown Monroe, and was one of the founding members of the Old Monroe Neighborhood Association. For years, she served as secretary for the Friends of the Union County Public Library. Family meant everything to Jane. She was always there for her family and friends, selflessly giving her time to anyone in need. If you knew Jane, you knew that she was there for you without question. She will be missed by so many in our community, most especially by her family and friends who loved her so. Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Monroe. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00pm until 1:45pm in the parlor. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Monroe, 109 W. Morrow Ave, Monroe, NC 28112.
