Betty Ruth (Burkes) Rogers

Betty Ruth Burkes Rogers, 92, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Autumn Care Nursing Home in Marshville, NC. She was born on January 5, 1925 in Middlesboro, KY, eldest of six children to the late Allen Guy Burkes and Mary Lee Neikirk Burkes. She is also preceded in death by three brothers; Jack Thomas Burkes, Robert Allen Burkes, and Roy Edward Burkes; two husbands; Henry L. (Jack) Lain, Jr., and Ernest P. Rogers. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC, 28112. The family will receive friends following the service. A graveside service will be on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Middlesboro Cemetery in Middlesboro, KY. Although Betty was a native of Middlesboro, she spent most of her adult life in Birmingham, Alabama. In 1999, she moved to Monroe, NC to be near family. She is survived by daughter, Rosemary Ellington; grandson, Fisher Ellington III (Trey); brother, Martin M. Burkes; sister, Aileen B. Sowder and husband Ray; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Betty’s family wishes to express heart-felt gratitude to the staff of Autumn Care for their tender and loving care. Much appreciation, also, to the Forefront Class of First Baptist Church, Monroe, NC for their constant and abiding love.
