Obituary

Mrs. Betty Jean Howey Steele, 84, of Waxhaw, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2015, at The Brian Center in Monroe. She was born February 11, 1931, in Union County to the late Worth Ashcraft Howey and Frances Pauline Doster Howey. Mrs. Steele is survived by her three sons, George F. Steele, Jr., of Monroe, Tommy Steele of Waxhaw; and Danny Steele of Wilmington; sister, Ann Howey Brooks of Mineral Springs; seven grandchildren, Bradley Steele, Jared Steele, George F. “Trae” Steele, III, Lauren Steele, Tawny Barrett, Tanner Barrett, and Tucker Barrett; and three great grandchildren, Taylyn Steele, Levi Steele, and Ava Steele. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Franklin Steele, Sr., and daughter, Pamela Marie Steele Barrett. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at 3:00 PM at Tirzah Presbyterian Church, 7507 Tirzah Church Road, Waxhaw, NC 28173. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends following the committal service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tirzah Cemetery Association, 7618 Tirzah Church Road, Waxhaw, NC 28173 or Pleasant Grove Camp Ground, 658 Cotton Field Circle, Waxhaw, NC 28173.
