Betty Joyce High Turrentine passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, August 5, 2017 at The McWhorter Hospice House in Monroe, NC. Betty was born on March 2, 1938 in Bladen County, NC daughter to the late Junius Woodrow and Pauline Ramsey High. She was also preceded in death by her husband Wilburn Charles “Dee” Turrentine. A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Central United Methodist Church Chapel. The family will visit prior to the service from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM in Central Hall. A private burial will be held at a later date. Betty is survived by her two sons, Ashley Raeford Thomas of Monroe, NC and Charles Kendall “Ken” Turrentine, and wife Stacey of Huntersville, NC, four grandchildren Kendall Ryan Thomas and wife Stacey of Monroe, NC, Matthew Corey Thomas of Fayetteville, NC, Kendall Davis Turrentine and Charles Harding Turrentine both of Huntersville, NC, two great grandchildren Rylan Lee Thomas and Lawson Kennedy Thomas both of Monroe, NC, her dear sister Margaret High Murray of Monroe, NC niece Cheryl Murray Edwards, and husband Marty, and their sons Clay and Luke all of Weddington, NC and three nephews Dean Murray, and wife Connie of Isle of Palms, SC, Everett Sain, and wife Dianne and Nelson Turrentine, and wife Jenny of Mocksville, NC. Betty graduated from Polkton High School in 1956 and from Wadesboro School of Nursing in 1958. She went onto tirelessly and compassionately serve as a Nurse for 45 years at Carolinas Medical Center - Union. The loving care she gave her patients was as strong to those who were strangers as it was to those close to her. The first words out of anyone’s mouth at the mentioned of her name were “the sweetest lady”. Her love and strength that she gave for and instilled in her family will live on beyond her death. Betty was a faithful member of Central United Methodist Church for 55 years, and she loved her church family with all her heart. The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Hospice House of Union County for the incredible care they gave to her and the support given to our family during this time.
