Betty Kay Leavell-Yeakley, 81, of Monroe, NC, passed away June 21, 2019, at Union County Hospice House, Monroe, NC. She was born in Rochester, IN, on April 10, 1938, to George Donald Leavell and Goldys Florence Jones Leavell. She married David Ray Yeakley on November 10, 1957 in Rochester, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents George Donald Leavell and Goldys Florence Jones Leavell, one brother Don G. Leavell and one brother in law, Phil Yeakley. A visitation will be held from 1:00PM until 1:45PM Tuesday, June 25, 2019, with funeral to follow at the Central United Methodist Church, 801 South Hayne St. with Rev. Laura Hamrick officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park at 1901 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112. She is survived by her husband David Ray Yeakley, four children, Randall L. (Teresa) Yeakley, Tim A. Yeakley of Monroe, NC, Daniel D. (Holly) Yeakley of Monroe, NC, Kevin D. (Rhonda) Yeakley of Waxhaw, NC; four grandchildren, Matthew K. (Delila), Melanie B. (Mark), Lauren N. and Heather N. all of Monroe, NC; 7 great-grandchildren of Monroe, NC, 2 brothers, Mitchell D. Leavell of Brandon MS, David C. Leavell of Rochester, IN and a sister in law, Mary Yeakley in Lansing, MI. She attended Ball State where she studied Arts and Science. Betty’s love for life, family, people, animals and nature was apparent in every part of every day. She was a woman of many talents including crafting, painting, drawing, pottery, gardening and floral design. A mother of four boys, she shared and taught them as much as she could about all things she loved. She owned a Nursery in Canton, GA where she practiced her gift for floral design and gardening. She continued sharing her knowledge and talents in MN and NC where she was a respected Floral Designer and Craft Specialist. She loved traveling and spent her retirement years exploring many parts of the world with her husband. A devoted member of the Central United Methodist Church in Monroe, NC, she was involved in their Choir and volunteered every time she could. She was a loving wife, mother and friend and she will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Central united Methodist Church of Monroe, NC.
