Billy Ray “Bill” Chaney, 77, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2014. He was born in Union County on October 25, 1936, son of the late Hubert Winchester and Loma Estelle Byrum Chaney. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Bobbie Sims and Noah Chaney. Funeral services will be Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 2:00 PM in Benton’s Cross Roads Baptist Church, with burial following in Lakeland Memorial Park. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 20, 2014 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112. Mr. Chaney is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Birdie Blanchard Chaney; son, Glenn Ray Chaney and wife Jan, of Monroe; daughters, Glenda Jane Honeycutt and husband Gary of Peachland and Bonnie Gaye Smith and husband Tommy of Monroe; brothers, Raymond Chaney and wife Peggy and Gary Chaney and wife Jane; sisters, Sadie Headrick and husband Carroll and Martha Helms and husband Bruce; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
