In Loving Memory of Billy Joe Smith (Bill)

November 20, 1930 – August 22, 2025

Billy Joe (Bill) Smith, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on November 20, 1930, in Monroe, North Carolina, to Roy and Ruby Pinion Smith, Bill was the eldest of four brothers Donald, James, and Roy Wayne who shared a childhood filled with hard work, and enduring bonds.

Bill proudly served his country as an Army Medic during the Korean War, drawing strength and comfort from his favorite passage, Psalm 91, through the most challenging days. His unwavering faith remained a cornerstone of his life.

In September, 73 years ago, Bill married the love of his life, Becky, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in devotion and resilience. Together, they built a home filled with love and laughter, and maintained a family farm where they raised chickens, cows, pigs, and even goats—clearing the land with their own hands and hearts.

Professionally, Bill was known for his expertise and integrity in the automotive industry, first as a Parts Manager, second as a Body Shop Manager, and later as a trusted insurance adjuster. Customers and colleagues alike knew they could depend on him not just for his knowledge, but for his integrity and kindness.

A faithful member of Benton’s Crossroads Baptist Church, Bill served as a deacon and attended regularly, always quick to share how richly the Lord had blessed him and his family. His life was a testament to humility, service, and love.

Bill is survived by his cherished wife Becky, son David (Linda), daughter Cathy Black (Joe recently deceased). Grandchildren: Michael Black (Amanda), Chris Black (Morgan), Stephen Black (Mallory), Sara Smith Lail (Cody), Daniel Smith (Hannah). Great Grandchildren: Carson Black, Emilee Black, Caden Black, Mason Black, Caroline Black, Summer Black, Harper Lail, Davis Lail, Graham Lail, and Peter Smith. He is survived by his three brothers Donald, James and Roy along with numerous nieces and nephews. Bill is preceded in death by his parents Roy and Ruby Smith and Son in Law Joe Black.
