Billy Houston Ross

Billy Houston Ross, 84, passed away on October 13, 2020 to be with our Lord and Savior. Bill was born on July 23, 1936 to the late Charles Houston and Ruby McLain Ross. He married his high school sweetheart, Edith Marie Smith, on May 20, 1956, and they enjoyed 63 years together before her recent passing. Together, they were active members of Benton’s Crossroads Baptist Church, Unionville Lions Club, Boy & Girl Scouts and many other service clubs and committees for over 50 years. Bill and Edith served their community and neighbors with great passion. He is survived by his daughter, June Ross (Larry McGinnis), and his son, Johnny (Valarie) Ross; seven grandchildren, Shanda (David) Posey, Patrick (Melisa) Bullock, Robert Bullock, Stephanie Ross, James Ross, Hunter (Paige) Ross, Cory Ross; and three great-grandchildren, Xander and Aiden Posey and Chester Bullock. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth and Bruce, his sister, Rachel, and his son, Larry. Bill retired from a 30-year career with the North Carolina Air National Guard, then spent additional years managing the facilities at Benton Heights Elementary School before fully retiring. He loved gardening, pier fishing at the beach and spending time with all of his grandchildren. A private graveside service will be held at Benton’s Crossroads Cemetery. Friends are invited to stop by Gordon Funeral Service on Friday, October 16, 2020 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM to pay their respects and sign the register.
