Monroe, NC Bobby Vernon Shaw, 69, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2013, following a lengthy battle with cancer, and with his loving family by his side. He was born on August 18, 1943 in Union County, son of the late Wesley Vernon and Avis Strawn Shaw. He was preceded in death by his brother, Wesley Ed Shaw. Mr. Shaw was a graduate of Western Carolina University and a U. S. Army veteran. He enjoyed golf and football and also coached baseball and football. Funeral services will be Monday, January 14, 2013 at 11:30 AM in Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112. Burial will follow in the Prospect United Methodist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 10:00 – 11:15 AM prior to the service. Mr. Shaw is survived by his wife, Sandra Whitaker Shaw; son, Robert Wesley Shaw and wife Terry of Monroe; daughter, Jennifer Shaw Griffin and husband, Tripp, of Hickory; brother, Ward Bruce Shaw and wife Jeanette of Horsham PA; sister, Janis S. Misenheimer and deceased husband Dan of Monroe; sister-in-law, Mary B. Shaw; grandchildren, Buckley, Jackson and Skylar Shaw and Waker and Sam Griffin; and ten nieces and nephews.
