Boyd “Blue” Efird Simmons, 80, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2024. He was born in Stanly county North Carolina on January 7, 1944 to the late Hulon Ardell Simmons and Madge Efird Simmons. He is also preceded in death by his grandson, Justin Simpson.
Blue was a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge and had reached the 32nd degree. He also served as the secretary for the Lions Club of Indian Trail for over four years. Prior to his time working in the logistics field, Blue worked as a professional barber and did so for 10 years. He was also an active member of the church and served for 40 years as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, softball coach, choir member, and as a member of various other committees throughout the years.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 5, 2024 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Indian Trail, 732 Indian Trail Fairview Rd. Indian Trail, NC 28079 with burial to follow at Price Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM at the church.
Blue is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Frances Lambert Simmons; two daughters, Pam Simmons Simpson (Bryine), and Tracy Simmons (Steven Pittman); brother Hulon Gene Simmons (Kay); four grandchildren, Mitchell Simpson (Cailee), Cory Simmons, Alicia Cowan (Jonathon), and Samuel Moore; six great-grandchildren, Ellie James Simpson, Emma Simpson, Jackson Simpson, Scarlett Harbert, Wyatt Owens, Liam Simpson; and another great-grandchild on the way.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Council on Aging, 1401 Skyway Dr. Monroe, NC 28110.
