Obituary

Brian Xavier Heffernan, 66, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on October 27, 2026, at home in Waxhaw, North Carolina. He was born on August 6, 1960, in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Paul J. Heffernan and Dorothy Sullivan Heffernan. He is also preceded in death by his brother Phillip Heffernan.

Brian’s journey in life was marked by his devotion to family and friends, his loyalty, his personal integrity and persistent nature. He had a great sense of humor and was always ready to help anyone around him who needed him. He loved the camaraderie with his brothers who all maintained close, although long distance, relationships. He had numerous friends over the years and stayed in contact with many of them.

Brian grew up in the town of Billerica, Massachusetts and attended Billerica Memorial High School where he made the Varsity team in football for the four years that he attended, and the JV and Varsity teams in Lacrosse. During his Junior year, Brian was selected to be a member of the Eastern Massachusetts High School Lacrosse All-Star team. Being a natural leader, in his senior year, he was chosen to be Captain of both the Football and Lacrosse teams. After graduating in 1978 he enlisted in the Army where he loved working in the Motor Pool, driving trucks, and spent time in Berlin guarding political prisoners from World War II.

When Brian completed his service in the Army, he came home and found work as a car salesman. His love of cars and helping people made him an excellent salesman and he continued doing this throughout his career.

In 1986 he met Julia, who later became his wife. They had a daughter Kathryn who was the light of his life. In 1992 Brian moved his family south to Charlotte, NC and later in 1999 bought a house in Waxhaw, NC. In 2008 his grandson Sean was born. Brian was fiercely protective of Sean who later followed his grandfather’s footsteps, becoming a Football and Lacrosse player himself. In 2011, Brian went to work at Burns Ford where he finally felt that his long working hours, integrity and exceptional customer service skills were appreciated.

After retiring in 2026, Brian always made himself available and acted as a mentor, surrogate father, and friend to his grandson and other young men around him. He even continued to hear from past customers who reached out for help or just to say hello.

Brian is survived by his wife, Julia Baldwin Heffernan, his daughter Kathryn Heffernan, grandson Sean Heffernan, as well as five brothers, Paul Heffernan, Peter Heffernan, Jay Heffernan, Gary Heffernan and Leo Heffernan. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who loved.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, November 14, 2026, in the chapel of Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112.
