Bright "Lib" Benton

Dateline: Monroe, NC Bright Elizabeth “Lib” Benton, 89, died Sunday, August 8, 2010. Lib was born in Union Co., NC on October 27, 1920, daughter of the late John Nathan and Sarah Minnie Therrell Hargett. Lib was preceded in death by her husbands, William McDowell, Eustace Walden and J. D. Benton, sons, Sammy and Jimmy McDowell and ten brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 10:00 AM in the Gordon Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. Lib is survived by a son, Johnny McDowell of Aiken, SC; daughter, Sue Cannon of Monroe, NC; nine grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112.
