Avery Bruce Bradley Jr. 83, of Monroe, North Carolina went to be with the Lord surrounded by his beloved family on Friday, October 23, 2020. “Bruce” was born July 16, 1937 in Hamlet, North Carolina, son of the late Avery Bruce Bradley, Sr. & Audrey Clontz Bradley. A service to Celebrate and Honor Bruce’s life will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, October 26, 2020 at Benton Heights Presbyterian Church, with inurnment to follow in the church columbium. His formative years were spent building, racing, and repairing cars, and those hands that could fix or make anything led him to a nearly 40-year career at Teledyne Allvac forging metal alloys, repairing industrial furnaces and generally working on and solving very big problems. Electrician, woodworker, plumber, HVAC, car mechanic; he truly was a renaissance man with amazing skill in so many areas. He married Peggy Pope in 1963, and together they raised a family. To his children, he provided support, opportunity and encouragement. Through their love for each other, Peg and Bruce taught lessons on how to properly love your spouse. Retiring in the early 2000s, Bruce spent most of this time doting over his wife of 57 years and working in his workshop fabricating, furniture making, inventing, repairing, and building practically anything imaginable. During this time, he also became “BawBaw”, a grandfather that would bounce you on his knee in the morning, build you a blunderbuss toy gun in the afternoon, and then teach you how to hammer a nail at night. Bruce owned and displayed a servant heart. He was a 50+ year member of Benton Heights Presbyterian Church, and over the years served that church both in leadership positions and with practical handiwork. His love of animals was legendary; no cat he saw ever went hungry, and no puppy dog in his path ever missed a scratch behind the ears. His wisdom, counsel, and example as a father, husband, and grandfather cannot be overstated. Bruce is survived by his wife Peggy Bradley of Monroe, children Leigh Bradley (Tom Jones) and Scott Bradley (April), grandchildren Kyra Wilson, Kemper Wilson, Benjamin Bradley, Noah Bradley, Jayden Jones, Jordan Jones, great grandson Kohl Wilson, and brother Jim Bradley and family.
