Carl Butler Byrd

Carl B. Byrd, Jr., 95, of Monroe, NC, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2019. Carl was born to the late Carl and Georgia Byrd on September 14, 1923. He is also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lucille Byrd; and brother, Bill Byrd. He worked as an upholsterer for many years before retiring from Pennsylvania House Furniture. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at 1:00pm at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112. The family will receive friends and family prior to the service from 12:00pm until 12:45pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Lakeland Memorial Park, 1901 Lancaster Ave., Monroe NC, 28112. Mr. Byrd is survived by his children, Christine Graves and husband Larry, and Terri Lawrence; sisters, Francis Park and Betty Allen; grandchildren, Chad Graves, Melanie Graves, Stacy Graves and husband Richard Dudley, Chance Lawrence, and Hayley Lawrence; great-grandchildren, Henry Graves and JoLynn Graves. Mr. Byrd is a World War II veteran. He served as a gunner in the Mighty Eighth Airforce. Throughout his time of service he received many honorary awards; Eamet Campaign Medal with four bronze service stars, Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Good Conduct Medal , and The Distinguished Flying Cross.
