Carol Rudyard Baker

Carol Rudyard Baker, 92, of Concord, NC passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024. He was born in Marion County, SC on June 7, 1931, the son of the late Osborne Earl Baker, Sr., and Betty Harris Baker. He is also preceded in death by his brothers; Osborn Earl Baker, Jr. and Billy Baker, and sisters; Evelyn Renfrow and Marion Privette.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at First Baptist Church, 109 W. Morrow Ave, Monroe, NC 28112, with burial to follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends and family prior to the service in the Parlor of First Baptist Church from 2:00 PM to 2:45 PM.

Carol is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Sylvia Buck Baker, three daughters; Linda B. Smith (Blair), Jessica Baker, and Beverly Miller (Rod), and six grandchildren; James Baker, Jeremy Baker, McLain Miller, Avery Miller, Aaron Smith, and Andrew Smith.

Carol graduated from NC State University with a BS and Masters in Animal Science. He was an agricultural extension agent in Davie County from 1955-1959 and in Union County from 1959 until his retirement in 1988. Carol was a recipient of the Longleaf Pine and inducted into the NC Agriculture Hall of Fame.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Baptist Church, 109 W. Morrow Ave., Monroe, NC 28112.
