Carson Elliott Joyner was born in Union County on November 30, 1947, the fourth of six children of John Elliott Joyner and Marjorie Yarborough Joyner. He was preceded in death by his oldest brother, David Lamar Joyner. He is survived by his wife, Judy. His brothers and sisters are John Barry Joyner (wife, Debbie); Melba Ann Joyner; Merwyn R. Joyner (wife, Susan); Laura Robyn Gordon (husband, Doug). Daughter, Melanie Roxanne Joyner; Granddaughters, Nina Carissa Joyner and Maddie Joyner. A memorial service will be held at Hermon Baptist Church, Waxhaw NC, Thursday, February 25, 2021 at 2:00 pm. The service will be conducted by Rev. Larry Underwood; Rev. Jimmy Fox; Rev. Nate Martin and Mr. Barry Joyner. The Joyner Family will receive family and friends immediately following the service at the church. Carson attended Waxhaw Elementary School and graduated from Parkwood High School in 1966. After high school, he was drafted in the Army. He served in Vietnam in the late sixties. After returning from service, Carson married Judy Barnhill (whom he nicknamed Sam) on June 1, 1969. They were happily married for 51 years. He worked in drywall and concrete construction for many years. Carson was a people person. He never met a stranger. Friends and family called him by his nickname “Snuffy”. Snuffy was also known as a prankster. He and his sister Melba once placed a clothes pin on their cat’s tail in the cold winter. The next morning they had a bob tail cat. Snuffy was known to enjoy life. He loved racing, go-carts, motorcycles, animals, gospel and country music. His favorite occupation, which was later in life, was driving a Union County School bus. He especially enjoyed cutting up with the children. The children’s love for him was reflected in the outpouring of gifts he received at Christmas time from his bus riders and their parents. Snuffy suffered several major health issues the last four years of his life. He never complained nor talked about himself. The family appreciates the prayers lifted on behalf of Snuffy. We are very grateful for the outpouring of love shown to our family during this time.
