Obituary

Charles Franklin Bivens, 90, passed away Friday, January 31, 2014. He was born on December 9, 1923 in Union County, son of the late Edmond and Rilla Griffin Bivens. He served in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal AR 600-68, Victory Medal and Bronze Arrowhead. He also received a Presidential Unit Citation for Extraordinary Heroism in Military Operations Against an Armed Enemy in 1945. He was retired as manager of Producer’s Feed Mill. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 2, 2014 at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church - Monroe. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will visit with friends and relatives Saturday, February 1, 2014 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Gordon Funeral Service. Mr. Bivens is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Helms Bivens; his son, Charles F. Bivens, Jr. and wife Nicki of Indian Trail; daughters, Jean Thomas and husband Dolan of Monroe and Wanda Arant and husband Wayne of Marshville; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 109 E. Morrow Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112 or Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110. Gordon Funeral Service Crematory, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112 is caring for the Bivens family.
