Charles Rodney Boutwell

Rodney Boutwell, 77 of Monroe, NC passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021. He was born in Santa Clara County, CA, on October 15, 1943, son of the late Dr. Charles Rodney Boutwell Sr., and Gladys Cordella Campbell Boutwell. He is also preceded in death by his brother Paul Boutwell. A military committal service will be held at 9:00AM in Salisbury National Cemetery on Wednesday, July 14, 2021. A memorial service will follow at 4:00PM at Calvary Baptist Church, 2518 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112. The family will receive friends following the service. Rodney lived a full and adventurous life. In over 70 years he lived in ten states, served in the US Navy, attended three colleges, served in eleven churches and married the love of his life, Sylvia. They have two children and six grandchildren. Rodney would say “best of all, it’s by His grace that I am here; He saved me and forgave me and gave me a song to sing. Well glory”. He enjoyed leading worship and singing His praises at church. He loved spending time in God's word and prayer. Rodney loved God, family and church; he never met a stranger. He is survived by his loving wife Sylvia E. Boutwell, their two children, John Boutwell, wife Hilary, Donna Ratliff, husband Brian; siblings, Gloria Bynes, husband Sandy, Phil Boutwell, wife Sue; six grandchildren, Rebekah Hamilton, husband Trey , Holly Zabloski, husband Ross, Joshua Ratliff, wife Allison, Emma Boutwell, Ethan Boutwell and Gavin Boutwell.
