Charles Franklin Chaney

November 12, 1950 — July 15, 2021

Charles Franklin “Frank” Chaney Jr., 70, of Monroe, NC passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at the Hospice House in Monroe surrounded by his wife and sons. He was born in Union County on November 12, 1950, son of the late Charles Franklin Chaney Sr., and Billie Lee Williams Chaney. Frank was a graduate of Forest Hills High School in 1969 & a graduate of Central Piedmont Community College in 1971. He was an avid fly fisherman and loved to hunt deer, turkey and ducks with his boys and brother, Bill Chaney. He also was very involved with Babe Ruth Baseball over the many years and was a very influential coach to many young men. Throughout his career as a Graphic Designer he was very involved with the Union County Arts Council. He never met a stranger and always had a smile for everyone he came in contact with. He was a great example of what every man should strive to be. Funeral services will be Monday, July 19, 2021 at 3:00 PM in Lee Park Church. Burial will follow in Wingate City Cemetery. The family will visit with friends and relatives from 2:00 - 2:45 PM prior to the service. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sonia VanArsdol Chaney; his son Josh Chaney and wife Ericka and his son Matt Chaney and wife Kyrie; grandchildren Lela, Landon, Greyson, Aubrie, Mason and Jack. He is also survived by his brother, Bill Chaney and wife Ann of Monroe, NC, sister-in-law Sheila VanArsdol of Bluefield, WV and brother-in-law Craig VanArsdol and wife Jo Jane of Matthews, NC. The family would like to thank Dr. Luke Farmer at Levine Cancer Institute and his staff for the past ten months of care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lee Park Baptist Church, 2491 Morgan Mill Road, Monroe, NC 28110 or the American Cancer Society, 1901 Brunswick Avenue, Suite 100 Charlotte NC 28207.
