Charles Clayton Greene

Charles Clayton Greene, 83, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2018 at his home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 4:00pm at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, 7608 Concord Hwy, Monroe, NC 28110. Visitation will be prior to the service from 2:00pm until 4:00pm. Charles was born March 10, 1935 in Monroe, NC to the late Lonnie Wilson and Jane (Hinson) Greene. He graduated from Unionville High School in 1954. On November 18, 1956 he married Doris Ledbetter. Charles was a retired electrician and owned his own business for many years before retiring from Cooper Tools. Charles was an elder in his church. He was one of the founders of Backpacks for Blessings, serving those in need at Unionville Elementary. Over the years he served on various boards for Union County. He loved to talk with and about family. He always looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren. Charles never met a stranger. Charles is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doris Ledbetter, daughter, Teresa Gregorius and husband Wolfgang, two sons, Kevin Greene and wife Angie, and Darren Greene and wife Rosalie; eight grandchildren Jessica Gregorius, Tiffany Greene, Victoria Greene, Olivia Robinson and husband Will, Cameron Greene and wife Erika, Angelina Greene, Jacob Greene, and Will Greene; one great-granddaughter, Rylee Greene; brother Nat Greene and wife Dot, two sisters, Blondell Lane and Edith Simpson, and sister-in-law Peggy Greene and several nieces and nephews. Charles was proceeded in death by his parents and brothers Wriston, Walter, Bob, Lw “Dub” and sisters Polly Harkey, Jessie Goodman, Myrtle Hartwell. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Backpacks for Blessings, Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, 7608 Concord Hwy, Monroe, NC 28110.
