Charles Robert Scott

Charles R. Charlie Scott, 81, of Monroe, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2016. He was born February 9, 1935, in El Centro, CA, to the late Guy Oliver and Mortie Wade Scott. Charlie was a 1953 graduate of El Centro High School and obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from San Diego State University, where he met his wife of over 58 years, who passed away in May, Sondra Sue Sonnie Scott. While at SDSU, he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served his country from 1958 to 1960. Following his service, Charlie worked three jobs in San Diego to support his family; he sold shoes for JCPenney, had his Real Estate License and hosted open houses on Sunday afternoons, and was the Assistant Sales Manager at Golden Arrow Dairy. He then started a 29 year career with Honeywell, which transferred him to several cities across the United States before retiring in 1994 as Marketing Manager. Charlie and Sonnie and their family lived in San Diego, CA, Littleton, CO, Phoenix, AZ, and Watertown, NY, before settling in Monroe, NC. In Monroe, he was an active member of First Presbyterian Church and was a former member of First Presbyterian Church in Watertown, NY. Avid travelers, Charlie and Sonnie enjoyed traveling the world with their friends who called themselves the FARTS, short for Friends Against Rough Times. In addition to his parents and his wife, he is preceded in death by a son, Rob Scott. Charlie is survived by two children, Shari Scott and Steve Scott; 16 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 6, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church in Monroe. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall, where the family will greet friends and relatives. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 302 E. Windsor Street, Monroe, NC 28112 or Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Boulevard, Monroe, NC 28110. Gordon Funeral Service Crematory is caring for the Scott family.
