Mr. Charles Eugene “Gene” Williams, 85 of Monroe, passed away on September 24, 2018. He was a builder of impeccable reputation for Allan Tate Realtors. He worked to provide us with a new Baptist Association Building, and as a member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church, he built a beautiful church for that congregation. In addition, he helped build and repair many churches in Union County. As a dedicated Christian he served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher in the Mountain Springs Baptist Church for many years. He avidly prepared his Sunday schools lessons so no one could doubt his preparations and knowledge in his work. Gene was born in 1933 son of the late Grady V. and Sarah Ann Strawn Williams. He was one of 13 siblings. Four are still surviving. They are as follows, Mrs. Patsy Moore of Marshville, Mr. Jimmy Williams, and Mr. Robert “Tim” Williams both of Monroe, and Mrs. Nancy Bivens of Marshville, He is also survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Mrs. Doris Ellen Rorie Williams, and his sister-in-law Dr. Nancy K. Rorie of Wingate. Gene built a 225-acre farm on Old Pageland Monroe Road, and proved a success in both business and farming. He loved his farm and growing crops to serve the country. He had served in the Army in the Korean War and was a builder of mess halls in Washington State. He entered into service with three of his cousins, Edwin Rowell, Waxhaw who drove a General for a bomb testing site, and Ted Hargett and Roger Funderburk both of Marshville, who saw action. In summary, Gene was a beloved son, husband, brother to his own family, and beloved by his wife, her father and mother and sister, and as a friend you couldn’t find a better one. He appreciated being a Christian in all of his days. I believe he was greeted with “well done thy good and faithful servant”.
