Cheyenne Marcel Handy

Monroe, NC Cheyenne Marcel Handy, 7, died Saturday, January 13, 2007. Born September 10, 1999 in Union County, she was the daughter of Josh and Carol Saunderson Handy and was a second grade student at Union Elementary School. Cheyenne was the light of her family’s lives. She brought color into our world. Cheyenne lived her short life to the fullest at every moment, not taking one second for granted. Animals, books, and dancing were her passions. She loved her school and her churches, both of them. She was intelligent and articulate, asking questions about everything and loved learning. Cheyenne always had a smile on her face and a hug for everyone. Her smile lit up her face and her eyes just sparkled. She never met a stranger, making friends wherever she went. It did not matter who you were, she would let you know how she felt--good, bad, or indifferent. Cheyenne adored her brother, Christian, and had a very special bond with her Aunt Stessi. There are not enough words to describe the joy Cheyenne brought into her family’s lives. The house is quiet now—we miss the noise. Survivors in addition to her parents include one brother, Christian Wiles, of Concord; grandparents Kenneth and Ann Handy of Monroe, Bob and Meryl Saunderson of South Africa; great grandmothers Lola Hildreth of Marshville and Joy Molyneux of South Africa; and her aunts Stephani Handy of Elizabeth City, NC and Karen Saunderson of South Africa. Visitation will be from 6:00 – 9:00 PM Wednesday at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday at First Baptist Church.
