Chong Ok Fields

July 2, 1942 — March 30, 2023

Chong Ok Fields, 82, of Mint Hill. NC passed away while surrounded by her husband Arthur, daughter Helen, and grandson Tristan, she was released into the arms of Jesus at 3:25 p.m.


She was born in Korea on July 2, 1942, daughter to the late Jin Sung Kim and Pil L. Kim. She is also preceded in death by her two brothers Ban Suk Kim and Sam Suk Kim.


A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, in Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112, Dr. Christopher Baucom senior pastor of Benton’s Crossroads Baptist Church and Pastor Park Eueg Sik of Sarang Church of Charlotte will be officiating the service, with burial to follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00AM until 10:45AM at Gordon Funeral Service.


Chong Ok Fields married Arthur Fields Sr. on August 12, 1969 in Seoul, Korea. She accompanied her husband on his Army career journey for 23 years where she had various jobs in the food service industry. In addition to supervising and training other food service workers, she prepared food, operated the cash register, and was responsible for maintaining the dining room in keeping a neat, orderly, appearance. She dedicated herself to this profession for years in both Germany and Georgia USA.


She received a letter of appreciation for outstanding job performance as a cook and kitchen supervisor with the Department of the Army in Schweinfurt, Germany April 1979-1982.


She received a letter of achievement for meritorious support as kitchen supervisor at the dining facility for military soldiers from the 3rd Squadron 11th ACR from March 1986-Sept. 1988.


She received a certificate of achievement for outstanding support of the squadron dining facility during their preparation for the V Corps Phillips A Connelly competition.


She received a letter of recognition of successful completion of a tour of duty along the iron curtain dividing East and West Germany at the furthest outposts of freedom. There she performed duties as kitchen police for military soldiers for 3rd Recon Squadron 11th ACR Germany from Jan. 1987- May 1987.


She was commended for outstanding duty performance and contributed to the dining facility in Bad Hersfeld, Germany being awarded 2nd place in the USURE UR competition for excellence in food service.


She received a volunteer recognition award

for volunteer services to the Fulda military community on June 1, 1987.


She studied at Central Piedmont Community College in 2005 and earned her American Citizenship.


She was faithful in serving at various churches from 1968-2023 and attended the Korean Sarang Church of Charlotte, N.C. from 1989-2023 where she was recognized as the ladies auxiliary leader, deacon, and exhorter for life. In addition, she was awarded a certificate as singer and LM Vice President at the Hinesville, Ga. Church of God from Oct. 1982 - Sept. 1985.


Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, crocheting, singing, cooking, gardening, fishing, crabbing, Korean History, walking, and reading the Bible. She loved her grandchildren and took joy in cooking and serving others with her delicious Korean meals and was highly complimented on her amazing culinary skills.


Chong is survived by her loving husband Arthur Fields, sons Suk Fields (Molli); Arthur Fields Jr. (Amber); daughter Helen Hotchkiss (Jeffrey), brother I Suk Kim, three sisters Chong Sook Kim; Chong Hae Kim; Chong Sun Kim; seven grandchildren Elli Grace Cox; Sara Fields; Tristan Hotchkiss; Jada Hotchkiss; Jasmine Hotchkiss; Ashlyn Fields; and Austin Fields.
