Dateline: Monroe, NC Christine Camp Blanton, 99, formerly of Shelby, NC went home to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, February 1, 2007. Mrs. Blanton was born in Rutherford County, NC, September 11, 1907 daughter of the late Robert Lee and Nora Hamrick Camp. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Kennon Blanton, Sr. May 12, 2001. Mrs. Blanton was a 70 year member of First Baptist Church of Shelby where she taught Sunday school for over 40 years. She volunteered as a pink lady at Cleveland Memorial Hospital for over 40 years and was a member of Shelby’s Woman’s Club for over 30 years. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 3, 2007 at 11:00 AM in the Gordon Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at 3:00 PM Saturday in Sunset Cemetery in Shelby, NC. Mrs. Blanton is survived by her son, Joseph Kennon Blanton, Jr. and wife Dean of Monroe, NC; daughter, Delores Murphrey and husband Raymond of Clinton, NC; sister Margaret Dorsey of Shelby, NC; grandchildren, Cary Murphrey and wife Colleen and their children Hayleigh and Mariah of Cary, NC, Chrissy Murphrey Tyler and husband Tony and their children Thomas, Daniel and Adam of Poquoson, VA, Michael Murphrey of Clinton, NC, Kennon Blanton and wife Julie and son Andrew of Monroe, N C and Miranda Blanton Thomas and husband Derek and daughter, Kinsey of Waxhaw, NC The family would like to express their love and appreciation to Gloria Mims and Gaynelle Campbell for their love and care for Mrs. Blanton.
