Christopher Lloyd
Hope, Jr.
Feb 27, 1943 — Jul 8, 2026
Christopher Lloyd Hope, Jr., 83, of Monroe, NC, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, with his loving family by his side.
He was born on February 27, 1943, in Gastonia, NC, to the late Christopher Lloyd Hope, Sr., and Wilma McDaniel Hope. He was also preceded in death by his son, Christopher Lloyd Hope III, affectionately known as “Chip.”
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
On the first day of the 10th grade, he said he had met “the girl I’m gonna marry.” That girl was Linda Jacobs Hope, and together they shared 63 wonderful years of marriage. Chris and Linda were blessed with two children, Chip Hope and Carrie Hope Hargett (spouse, Jack Hargett), eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, with more blessings still to come. They loved raising their family in Monroe and enjoyed being involved in the community. As a young man, Chris was a member of the Jaycees and served as a Union County Juvenile Court Volunteer. Through the years, he remained in contact with many who he coached, mentored, or touched in some way.
Always a true Wolfpacker at heart, Chris graduated from NC State University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed by Teledyne Allvac in Monroe, NC, for 20 years. During that time, he worked nights and weekends to acquire his Professional Engineer license (PE) and began building his own engineering firm, Chris Hope Professional Engineer, which grew into a very successful business. Over the years, he acquired multiple Professional Engineering licenses in twenty-five states. Still working until his final days, his work gave him great joy and satisfaction. His mind was never idle, so in his spare time he was an avid crossword puzzler, a Jeopardy! watcher, and poker player. Chris truly valued and loved his many close friendships throughout his life, spending time golfing, playing poker, watching sports, or caring for friends during difficult times of illness.
Known to many as Paw-Paw Hope, he was a devoted and beloved grandfather. He and Linda spent the last 40 years dedicated to their family. Their home was the center of the Hope family, hosting every holiday and celebration for years. Weekends were spent with five to eight grandchildren sleeping over, taking them roller skating, walking to the golf course to ride golf carts and play in the sand traps, attending every ball game, school and church ceremony, stage performance, and so much more.
The word “no” rarely existed in Chris’ vocabulary. He was always willing to step up to help any and every family member, friend, or complete stranger in need. He strongly believed that extra money was only good for helping others. Warren Buffett’s financial advice was highly valued and followed by Chris. One of his favorite Warren Buffett quotes was, “When you get to my age, you’ll really measure your success in life by how many of the people you want to have love you actually do love you.”
If a life is measured by the love it leaves behind, then Chris Hope was truly a remarkable success.
