Clifford Fowler

December 31, 1969 — January 4, 2012

Clifford Clinton Fowler, 85, died on Wednesday, January 4, 2012. He was a man who loved his Lord, his family and his country. A veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion and the Waxhaw Masonic Lodge. He and his lovely wife of 64 years were the proud parents of three children and grandparents of two lovely granddaughters. He was the son of the late Marvin Monroe Fowler and Martha Mary Jordan Fowler. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Marvin, Robert, and Frank Fowler and his sisters, Margaret Wall, Zyll Bigham and Annie Frances Fowler. Clifford, a hard working man all his life, never complained because he did it for his family and community. After battling Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia since 2004, he died from a stroke. Although he was only 5’6” tall, he was always a man to be looked up to, an everyday hero who took care of his family, honored the United States of America, and trusted in God. He was always hospitable to anyone who came his way. There are many who were proud to call him a friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Luticia Starnes Fowler of Waxhaw; three children, Martha Fowler Piercy and husband Alford of Charlotte, Clifford Hunter Fowler of Asheville, and Crystal Fowler Wright of Waxhaw; and two granddaughters, Courtney Faith Wright and Jessica Lauren Wright of Waxhaw. He is also survived by his sister, Bessie Lee Fowler Mills of Midland. The family will receive friends Friday, January 6, 2012 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112. The funeral will be held Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Heath Memorial United Methodist Church at the intersection of Richardson King and Rehobeth Roads in Waxhaw with burial following in the Waxhaw Cemetery.
