Dateline: Monroe, NC Clinton Dreyfus Benton, III, 59, died Sunday, November 2, 2008. He was born in Smithville, NC on January 16, 1949 son of the late Clinton D. and Alice Ramona Gardner Benton, Jr. Mr. Benton was a US Marine veteran, serving in Vietnam. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. He is survived by his life companion, Lee Cook, of Monroe, son, Patrick Joseph Benton, of Portland, Oregon, daughter, Dr. Mary Catherine Benton of Round Rock, Texas, brother, Mark Sherwood Benton of Gainesville, Florida, two grandchildren, aunts, Jane and Olivia Benton and Joyce Shute all of Monroe.
