Clinton Cox

Clinton Cox, 83, of Monroe, passed away Friday, October 30, 2015, at his residence. He was born December 3, 1931, in Union County, son of the late Stanley Moses and Kate Griffin Cox. Mr. Cox was a 1950 graduate of Prospect High School and was former co-owner of Helms and Cox Greenhouses. A member of Union Grove Primitive Baptist Church, he was an active volunteer with Unionville Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as Assistant Chief, Secretary/Treasurer, and First Responder. He was also instrumental in helping establish Crestview Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Cox is survived by his wife of 62 years, Colleen Helms Cox; son, Alan Clinton Cox of Monroe; daughter, Ginger Cox Mullis and husband, Danny, of Monroe; brothers, Kenneth, Bobby, Jimmy, Marion, and David Cox; sisters, Jane Greene, Carolyn Moore, and Kathy Helms; grandchildren, Tori Anne Cox, Morgan Funderburk, and Shelby Kate Funderburk; and great-grandchild, Teegan Hunter Craig. He is also survived by step-grandchildren, Justin Mullis, Todd Mullis, and Jennifer Mullis. He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Cox, and sisters, Dot Richardson and Jean Meacham. The family will visit with relatives and friends, Saturday evening, October 31, 2015, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112. The funeral service will be held Sunday, November 1, at 2:00 PM at Union Grove Primitive Baptist Church, 3619 Morgan Mill Road, Monroe, NC 28110. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
